La Porte, Indiana – In a news release on Sunday, Indiana State Police stated that on Saturday, troopers on an Indiana Toll Road apprehended an Ohio murder suspect.

Authorities in Ohio tipped off Indiana State Police dispatchers on Saturday that a suspect wanted for the suspected murder of a 17-year-old might be using the Indiana Tollway. The troops were informed of this.

A trooper found a car that fit the description provided by Ohio authorities on Saturday at 9:57 a.m. The trooper was able to validate other identifiers that indicated this was the car being sought while he pursued the gray Toyota. The trooper followed the car as it went west past the La Porte exit until backup arrived.

With the aid of a Westville Police Department officer, the trooper conducted a traffic stop on the Toyota close to the Indiana Toll Road’s 38-mile marker. Following a high-risk stop, the Toyota’s driver, a 22-year-old Painesville, Ohio resident, was taken into custody and transferred to the La Porte County Jail.

An investigation is underway by the Willoughby Police Department (Ohio) into the shooting death of a male 17-year-old within their jurisdiction. The suspect’s name will be made public after he is charged.
