Teen charged as an adult in the murder of Bloomington woman
BLOOMINGTON – De’Angelo Tashean Princeton Tolliver Edwards, 16, of Bloomington has been charged as an adult with murder, murder committed during a felony, attempted murder, and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury in the shooting death of 18-year-old Keisha Huntington.
According to Capt. Ryan Pedigo, as officers were en route, Central Emergency Dispatch received another call reporting an accident in front of La Bonita Restaurant & Market just north of this location.
Officers immediately began rendering aid to Huntington until the arrival of ambulance personnel. She was then transported to the IU Health Bloomington Hospital where she later died.
Braun told police he had arrived at the apartment with Huntington with the intent of purchasing marijuana from a teenager known as “D-Lo”
When they arrived “D-Lo” approached their vehicle with a handgun and demanded they give them all of their property. Braun told police he gave the teen $150 in cash and told Huntington to drive away.
That is when Huntington accelerated out of the parking lot. He then heard three shots.
Huntington told Braun she had been shot just before crashing the vehicle into a parked car on North College Avenue.
Police recovered three 9mm shell casings in the parking lot of Northcrest Apartments on North Woodburn.
According to the affidavit, police were able to locate and identify Tolliver Edwards as “D-Lo” using Snapchat and other social media accounts. Braun also identified the teen in a lineup.
Police arrested Edwards at his father’s apartment in the 900 block of North Rogers Street.
He is being represented by Bloomington Attorney Kitty Liell, who says her client is being held in the Monroe County Jail.
According to Indiana law, prosecutors are required to charge 16- to 18-year-olds as adults in severe cases.
She has not spoken to her client, saying visitors, including attorneys, are prohibited to visit due to COVID-19 restrictions.
A not guilty plea was entered on the teen’s behalf on March 30 in Monroe Circuit Court 9. A pretrial conference is set for May 13 at 1:30 p.m. A jury trial set for November 8, 2021, at 9:00 a.m.
