The Indianapolis Airport will soon have new furnishings and charging stations

Indianapolis, Indiana – At the September board meeting of the Indianapolis Airport Authority, a number of facility improvements were presented. As early as the end of the year, travelers should anticipate changes.
The most recent developments pertain to the airport’s installation of energy-efficient infrastructure. In order to offset 10% of the terminal’s energy use, the board intends to combine a solar photovoltaic generation system, battery energy storage, and enhanced controls. The expected cost of the airport’s energy source upgrade is $38.1 million, with completion anticipated by 2025.
As part of the board’s terminal renovation program, the airport will upgrade its terminal furniture with an expenditure of over $900,000. In each gate hold area, travelers can anticipate new lounge-style chairs and work tables with 12 seats apiece. Although it will make up 10–13% of the total seating, the seating won’t decrease capacity. In order to save travelers from having to look for wall outlets at the airport, every new furniture will also include electrical outlets.
The airport’s moving walkways, escalators, elevators, and HVAC system will all be upgraded.
After approval of a professional services contract to lead the Centralized Baggage Processing System Recapitalization Design, the Indianapolis Airport Authority is now able to go forward with a major overhaul to its baggage processing system. The goal of this $130 million project is to replace the outdated infrastructure with a cutting-edge system that can be dropped off by itself and has more features. The board is actively looking for grant money to help defray the cost of the restoration.
