The parents of a fallen Elwood Police Officer present the first check to their son’s foundation, which supports the K9 program

Elwood, Indiana – In honor of their son, Noah Shahnavaz, an Elwood police officer who was shot and killed during a traffic stop in July 2022, his parents delivered the first check from a foundation supporting the department’s K9 program on Monday.

On Monday night, Laurie and Matt Shahnavaz delivered the first check from the Remember Officer Noah Foundation to help the Elwood PD K9 program.

The check was for $2,000.39, in memory of their son Noah, who had the badge number 39.

Elwood PD Lt. Marcus Shoppel and his K9 companion, Shanny, accepted the contribution. The puppy was handed to the department as a memorial to Noah.

The Lantern Road Elementary School student council raised the funds for the donation.
