The Santa Claus Post Office releases a special 2024 holiday postmark
Santa Claus, Indiana – Santa Claus, Indiana, is reviving a popular holiday tradition. The small-town post office now has the distinctive Santa Claus holiday postmark.
Being the only one in the world with the Santa Claus name, the Santa Claus Post Office is well-known. Workers claim that while they only receive 13,000 pieces of mail a month for the rest of the year, they receive over 400,000 pieces in December.
Since 1983, the Santa Claus Post Office has provided a distinctive postmark with a Santa motif for each holiday season. The Santa Claus Post Office offers local high school students the chance to create the image postmark that will be used on Christmas cards and other correspondence every year.
Aubrey Harpe is the performer this year. She is currently a freshman at the University of Southern Indiana, having recently graduated from high school.
Customers from all around the world want the well-known Santa Claus holiday postmark every year. Some people request the special postmark via mail, while others go into town to personally cancel their holiday mail using the famous picture postmark. In a press statement, Postmaster Joshua Graham stated, “Our town has a longstanding tradition of using the charming Santa Claus postmark, which adds to the charm of the spirit each season.”
“Every year, the unique artwork is exciting and enjoyable to view, and it is an honor for this office to offer this service to the public in addition to choosing an artist’s contribution.”
Only Santa Claus, Indiana will be permitted to use the 2024 postmark until December 24.
The following rules should be followed if you want to receive the special cancelation on your holiday mail:
• Allow at least a 2-inch by 4-inch space in the stamp area for the picture postmark;
• Apply postage to cards or letters before bringing or mailing them to the post office;
• If you wish to mail Christmas cards to the post office, package them – with postage stamps already on them – in a sturdy envelope or box, and mail to: Postmaster, P.O. Box 9998, Santa Claus, IN 47579-9998;
• The picture postmark must be requested by the postal customer;
• To ensure a good postmark imprint, do not enclose large or bulky items in your holiday mail (Ex: reindeer food, snowflakes, glitter, stickers, etc.);
• There is no charge for postmarking; however, there is a limit of 50 picture postmarks (hand cancellations) per person per day.
During the first three weekends of December, the town of Santa Claus is also celebrating the holidays with a number of festive events. The Santa Claus Christmas Parade, the Santa Claus Museum & Village’s Christmas music, Santa’s Candy Castle’s open-fire chestnut roasting, and other customs are all part of the holiday season.
