Warsaw, Indiana – Multiple sources reported that a crash in northern Indiana near Warsaw sent three young people from Chicago to the hospital with serious injuries, while at least 13 others suffered minor injuries.

According to the incident report, a semitrailer collided with a bus carrying a youth hockey team from Chicago, and local authorities believe that alcohol might have been a factor in the incident. The collision happened at an intersection of U.S. 30 and a local street around 8 p.m. on Saturday, causing the bus to fall on its driver’s side while the semitrailer ended up in a ditch.

The initial investigation showed that the semitruck driver was swerving and speeding before the crash, and the police have reason to believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision. The driver was arrested after the incident, but no more details have been released since then. The identity was not immediately made public.

The bus was traveling from Chicago, Illinois, to a place near Culver. The bus was full of students ages 14 to 17 from Chicago’s St. Ignatius College Prep, all part of the hockey team. A total of 16 passengers were injured. Three of them suffered serious injuries, and due to their condition, they were transferred to two separate hospitals for treatment. Two of them were transported to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital, and one was transported to a local hospital. On Sunday, hospital officials said that all three of the students were in stable condition. All the other students had only minor injuries.

Responding crews said that at least one person was thrown out of the bus during the crash, but it wasn’t clear right away if that person was one of the people who were seriously hurt.

The hockey team was headed to a hotel after having dinner in Warsaw, located about 120 miles (193 kilometers) southeast of Chicago, police said.

This is a developing story. We will update the article once more details are released by the authorities.
