You can receive a notification in the mail if you speed in this work zone

Indianapolis, Indiana – Warning warnings are being mailed to drivers who were caught speeding through a significant construction zone on the northeast side.

Speed cameras are placed on the interstate where crews are working as part of the Indiana Department of Transportation’s “Safe Zones” program.

After installing the cameras along a busy work zone on I-70 in Hancock County throughout the summer, INDOT reported a 70% decrease in speeding.

When driving through the construction zone at the intersection of I-465 and I-69, drivers will notice signs that read, “Speed limit, photo enforced.” A notification will be mailed to drivers who are found to be exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 11 mph.

The “pre-enforcement” phase is now in progress. This indicates that speed warnings are being given to drivers out of courtesy. Repeated violations after that time frame expires may result in fines of up to $150. When enforcement will start was not specified by INDOT.

The concept is continuously being adapted by drivers.

Driver T.J. Davis stated, “I don’t personally have a problem with it because it’s about safety.” “Everyone has the right to securely arrive at their place of employment or return home to their family. Personally, safety is paramount for me.

Another driver, Jorge Morales, stated, “I think that’s pretty cool, so it can keep the safety of the people working on the highway and stuff.” “I am aware that many people drive in a very crazy manner.”

The ongoing “Clear Path 465” project development on the northeast side is frustrating other travelers. We are currently in the third year.

According to motorist Sunnie Santiago, “you never know which way the traffic pattern is going to change on a nearly daily or weekly basis.” Before they start thinking about using more of our tax dollars for cameras, I believe they should take that into account more. Why don’t we just finish the jobs?

The construction of “Clear Path 465” is expected to last until the end of the year. In order to reduce traffic and enhance safety along the congested interstate corridor, the project intends to build new travel lanes, ramp lanes, and bridges.
