Zionsville secures $4 million for traffic and safety enhancements in South Village
Zionsville, Indiana – Exciting developments are on the horizon for Zionsville’s South Village area, as investment is set to make its mark soon.
Zionsville has announced that it has secured $4 million from Indiana’s READI 2.0 program, aimed at enhancing traffic and safety in the South Village area.
The announcement highlighted that the funding will support the development of two new roundabouts and road connections at the intersections of 1st Street/Sycamore Street and Main Street/Sycamore Street. A portion of the investment will be allocated to create a new pedestrian path along Sycamore Street, stretching from 1st Street to Lions Park.
The announcement highlighted that READI 2.0 funding is designed to “accelerate transformative projects that enhance the quality of life, draw in talent, and drive economic development.” This project’s location champions walkable neighborhoods, innovation centers, and vibrant recreational areas that draw in talent and stimulate economic development.
“The traffic grid we have in place is over 150 years old, originally designed for railroads rather than contemporary vehicles,” stated Zionsville Mayor John Stehr in the release. “This investment revitalizes our infrastructure, fosters sustainable development in the South Village, and enhances accessibility for Main Street businesses.”
Authorities announced that the project will create a direct link between Zionsville Road and Main Street, with construction potentially commencing as early as next year. The project’s details are being meticulously finalized by engineers, encompassing utility relocations and enhanced pedestrian crossings.
“The Zionsville Chamber champions policies that foster regional collaborations and creative funding approaches, like the READI 2.0 program, to optimize resources and propel economic growth,” stated Chamber Executive Director Mike Hanlon in the announcement. Enhancing traffic flow, ensuring pedestrian safety, and boosting connectivity will fortify our economy and elevate the vibrancy of our community, making it a magnet for attracting and retaining talent.
We are excited to collaborate with Mayor Stehr and the vibrant local business community in Zionsville to turn this project into a reality.
