The shooter at the Noblesville school will be released and taken to the Madison County jail
Noblesville, Indiana – Hamilton County will release the suspect in the Noblesville school shooting and send him to Madison County, where he faces charges of assaulting a jail employee.
At Noblesville West Middle School in May 2018, a kid, who was then 13 years old, shot and wounded Jason Seaman, a teacher, and classmate Ella Whistler.
The gunman was charged as a minor and was told to report to the Indiana Department of Correction until he turned 18. This year, he turned 18 earlier.
In April, a Hamilton County court refused to free the gunman, stating that a psychological evaluation was required.
The gunman was charged in May by the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office with criminal violence on public safety personnel. He was 17 years old at the time of the occurrence and still regarded as a juvenile.
Less than a month before his scheduled release, on March 20, 2023, the man, identified as D.M., allegedly punched a female counselor twice in the breast.
According to court documents, the counselor, who reported the incident to her supervisor, told investigators that it was “sort of a fist bump” and that it wasn’t “a very hard punch.”
According to court documents, the man afterwards “acknowledged he punched [the corrections officer] in the breast but stated it was horseplay,” and he “didn’t think it was a big deal” because the counselor never mentioned it to him and “acted as if nothing happened,” the prosecution claims.
On Monday, the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office said that the shooter will be taken into custody.
“We have a hold on him, so he will be transported to us and we will have a detention hearing,” the prosecutor’s office stated in an email.
The release and transfer date was not specified with any specificity.
