Speedway, Indiana – A 1.9-mile new section of the B&O Trail was formally opened on Monday afternoon by the Speedway Trails Association.

A multi-phased rail-to-trail development project, the B&O trail aims to turn abandoned train tracks into walking and biking routes.

Trails are crucial to the community, according to the organizers, for a variety of reasons. The fact that the trails serve several purposes, according to Speedway Trails vice president Beverly Katterhenry, is quite important.

“It’s for your health, it’s for people who want to get outside. It’s for people who want to get to work. It’s amazing how many people in the morning I see riding their bikes,” Katterhenry said.

The last connection to the city center, according to the organizers, should be finished in the first half of 2024. The finished trail will stretch 15 miles between Indianapolis and Tilden.
