Indiana state senator resigns in September
Indianapolis, Indiana – An experienced Indiana state senator made the decision to leave the chamber in late September, citing the increasing strain of juggling his legislative responsibilities with “business, personal, and family obligations.”
After serving as the senator for Senate District 43 in southeast Indiana for nearly nine years, Republican Sen. Chip Perfect of Lawrenceburg announced his resignation effective September 26.
It was “difficult” for him to decide to leave his position representing Dearborn, Jefferson, Ohio, Scott, and Switzerland counties as well as a section of Jennings County, he said in a statement.
“It is a challenge to balance public service with business, personal and family obligations, as each of those responsibilities has grown recently and it feels like a disservice to the people of my district when I cannot fully give the Indiana Senate the focus it requires,” Perfect said.
Perfect has been running Perfect North Slopes, a ski resort in southeast Indiana, for 42 years and serves as its president and CEO.
He is the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Utilities and the chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Technology. Additionally, he sits on the agriculture, natural resources, pensions and labor, and Senate committees.
According to Luke Thomas, a spokesman for the Indiana Republican Party, a Republican caucus will convene to choose Perfect’s replacement, though the exact date has not yet been decided.
