Avon, Indiana – According to school officials, Friday’s afternoon classes at Avon Academy were postponed after a student was discovered on campus carrying a firearm.

An employee at Avon Academy was informed by a student on Friday morning that another student had brought a firearm to school. The teenager did indeed possess a gun, according to school authorities who responded right away and helped the Avon School Police Department.

According to Avon Schools Corporation, all pupils and employees were secure, and classes continued even as police arrived on the scene.

Students and employees were let out of the classroom hold around 10:30 a.m., and they met with school counselors before leaving for the day.

“The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority here in Avon Schools. We regularly tell our students and staff that if they see something they should say something to a trusted adult. We are incredibly proud of the student who heeded that advice this morning,” Kevin Carr, Communications Coordinator for Avon Schools Corperation said.

At the Avon Schools Administration Center, 60 high school students in grades 10 through 12 participate in the Avon Academy program.
