17-year-old was taken into custody for carrying a gun to Crispus Attucks High School
Indianapolis, Indiana – A 17-year-old was taken into custody by police on Thursday after a pistol was discovered at an Indianapolis high school.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. and was reported at approximately 3 p.m. at Crispus Attucks High School, located at 1140 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. St., on the near northwest side of Indianapolis, according to the police report.
Three preliminary accusations led officers to detain the 17-year-old suspect: unauthorized carrying of a pistol, hazardous possession of a firearm by a juvenile, and possession of a firearm on school premises, which is a crime.
According to the complaint, officers discovered the student in possession of a 9mm Smith & Wesson semiautomatic weapon, narcotics, and THC vape cartridges.
Due to the incident on Thursday, the school was placed on temporary lockdown. Investigations into the case are still ongoing.
Indianapolis Public Schools released a statement: Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) is aware that Crispus Attucks High School was on a brief lockdown today (Feb. 1) because of an arrest of a student by IPS Police. The student had a weapon. The arrest was without incident, and no one was injured.
The safety of our students and staff is always our priority at IPS.
