Three people detained after 600 cans of infant formula were stolen from a Walmart in southern Indiana
Boonville, Indiana – After police claim that three suspects stole around 600 cans of infant formula from a Walmart in southern Indiana, the suspects were taken into custody.
Officers from the Boonville Police Department were sent to Walmart on Thursday to look into a theft. Employees at the business informed the responding officers that the suspects had taken infant formula and driven off.
Less than a mile from the store, at the crossroads of State Road 261 and Eskew Road, the suspicious car was stopped. Police seized the car and searched it after discovering a “large amount of baby formula” inside.
Investigators discovered 576 baby formula packages worth $22,495.41.
That is the typical price of a brand-new 2024 Toyota Corolla, for comparison.
“A larger theft ring that included theft from Walmarts in Boonville, Newburgh, (the east side of) Evansville, and Jasper,” according to the police, was “uncovered” during the traffic stop.
The government did not specify whether infant formula was the only product stolen by the group.
Edgar Ramirez and Nora Zarate, the two suspects, were apprehended. Due to their involvement in the incident, a third juvenile suspect from Texas was also taken into custody.
Ramirez and Zarate are both charged with felonies for stealing property valued between $750 and $50,000, according to online court records. No court date has been scheduled.
