IU and Monroe County provide a complimentary eclipse text alert system
Bloomington, Indiana – A free text message alert system is being provided by IU and Monroe County for public safety problems about the total solar eclipse on April 8.
To get messages, send the SMS “MoCoEclipse” to 226-787.
On April 10, users will be deleted from the system.
The path of totality passes through Monroe County. Between 200,000 and 300,000 tourists are expected in Bloomington, which will probably result in considerable traffic on the roads and strain on the telecommunications infrastructure.
The last complete solar eclipse that could be seen from Bloomington was in 1869.
The next total solar eclipse in Bloomington will be in 2153, which will follow in April.
