One person shot to death Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis
Indianapolis, Indiana – A Saturday afternoon shooting incident on the northeast side was fatal for one person, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department informed the public.
Per several reports, the deadly shooting took place at a church during a funeral in the area of 25th Street and Ralston Avenue shortly before 12:30 p.m. Initially, the local authorities were dispatched to the scene after someone called 911 and reported a fight. When officers arrived at the address, they found a man in the parking lot who had been shot.
First responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Until now, the identity of the victim had not been revealed to the public.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The police didn’t want to talk about the case right away because all of the information is considered sensitive and could change the way the investigation is going.
The police did say that they are speaking with a person of interest and that they were able to track down the person of interest quickly using investigative technology, but they wouldn’t go into specifics.
At the time when the shooting incident occurred, there was a funeral scheduled to take place at the church. Responding officers didn’t say if the deadly shooting was connected to the funeral or anyone who had attended the service.
There were a lot of people in the area when our field reporter arrived at the scene. Some of the attendees were the victim’s friends and family, while others were people who were there for the funeral. Dozens of area residents were also seen at the scene.
