Political analyst Shabazz considers running for mayor of Indianapolis
Indianapolis, Indiana – A political analyst and commentator might run for mayor of Indianapolis.
Abdul-Hakim Shabazz acknowledged that he is considering running as a Republican. He anticipated making a final choice in the upcoming weeks.
“I am looking at running and in the process of forming an exploratory committee. I should have a final decision by the filing deadline in February,” he said in a message to reporter Cameron Ridle. As for his party affiliation, Shabazz said he would be running as a Republican in the tradition of “Mitch Daniels, Dick Lugar, and Greg Ballard.”
Shabazz frequently participates in IN Focus panels. On IndyPolitics.org, the political pundit, lawyer, and writer writes extensively about national, state, and local politics.
Democratic Indianapolis mayor Joe Hogsett declared his intention to run for reelection in November. Democrats Gregory Meriweather and Robin Shackleford have also declared candidacies to oppose Hogsett.
Pastor James Jackson is the only additional Republican contender to declare a bid for mayor.
