Following the announcement of University of Kentucky Hat Night, Pacers supporters respond
Indianapolis, Indiana – Some supporters are outraged by the Indiana Pacers’ intention to promote UK hats with a blue-and-white pattern.
“Blue and white, this is your night!” the Pacers tweeted just before 9:45 a.m. Monday. “Join us at [Gainbridge Fieldhouse] on Friday for our first-ever University of Kentucky Hat Night.”
The choice to honor the UK Wildcats with a hat giveaway is not a popular one, as evidenced by some of the tweets in response to the announcement. (Note: There haven’t been any regular-season games between the men’s basketball teams of UK and Indiana University since December 2011, purportedly due to UK coach John Calipari’s preference for neutral sites.)
A co-branded cap is included with each game ticket. On the Pacers website, tickets start at $29 per person.
Do not like the Wildcats? The Pacers will host Indiana Hat Night on April 5, Ball State Hat Night on February 15, and IUPUI Hat Night on March 29.
