Changes ahead for Rockville Road at US 36
Indianapolis, Indiana – The Indiana Department of Transportation intends to add more lanes to Rockville Road around the intersection with U.S. 36 on Indianapolis’ west side.
On Wednesday evening, INDOT personnel held a public hearing in a conference room on the second level of the Wayne Township Fire Department’s administrative offices. A large crowd examined the most recent project maps and voiced their opinions.
The project’s primary goal is to convert the road from four to six lanes. For the protection of pedestrians, the project also intends to install walkways. According to INDOT data, this road sees 40,000 vehicles each day, making safety a key issue.
The Crawfordsville District of INDOT’s public relations manager, Megan DeLucenay, stated: “Everything we’re doing is to improve your daily life. Making sure you can turn into your driveway safely. Making sure that pedestrians have a safe place to walk.”
According to INDOT, the building will start in 2025 and utilities in the area will be moved in 2024.
