A Hammond man detained on suspicion of abusing children
Hammond, Indiana – A man from Indiana was taken into custody on several counts of abusing children.
In a news statement, the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force stated that it was looking into the 60-year-old Hammond resident Lawrence Christopher Taylor. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) provided authorities with multiple tips regarding a certain Verizon Wireless phone number, which prompted the inquiry.
According to ISP, the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office granted officers a search warrant after they investigated the phone number for several months. Subsequently, investigators found out that Taylor had materials related to child sex abuse.
Taylor was reportedly brought into jail on October 3, according to ISP. Two Level 5 felonies and two Level 6 felonies are the preliminary charges against him. Taylor is being charged with many counts of possessing child pornography and exploiting children.
In Indiana, a Level 5 felony carries a maximum sentence of six years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
There is no set date for Taylor’s case’s initial hearing.
