Indianapolis, Indiana – Tuesday is the first day a Texas man accused of stalking Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is expected to face in a Marion County courtroom.

According to online court records, Michael Lewis, 55, will have his initial hearing at 9 a.m.
Lewis was taken into custody in Indianapolis on Sunday. According to court documents, law enforcement followed him to a Hilton in the heart of the city using his IP address.

Since December 16, Lewis has written more than 800 messages directed at Clark on X, according to I-Team 8. Several of the texts contained explicit sexual content.

According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives, they initially discussed Lewis’ posts with him last week. According to a probable cause affidavit that News 8 was able to receive, Lewis said that he had a “imaginary” relationship with Clark during the conversation and that the posts were “just a joke.”

Lewis was told to stop posting, according to the police.

However, following Lewis’ conversation with police, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears stated on Monday that the communications to Clark “may have escalated.”

When it comes to what you post online, there is a very clear boundary that you can cross. Mears remarked, “You can’t say whatever you want.” “We believe that these tweets clearly go too far, and some of them involve sexual battery.”

Clark was also interviewed by investigators. In court records, Clark claimed that after learning of Lewis’s texts, she became “very fearful” and even had to alter her personal routines and public appearances.

If Lewis secures bond, the court has already issued a restraining order against him and an order to avoid Gainbridge Fieldhouse, according to online court documents.

Lewis is charged with one count of stalking. He might be fined $10,000 and imprisoned for up to six years.
