Westfield unveils ideas for a possible 10,000-seat stadium and the Grand Park District Master Plan

Westfield, Indiana – A 10,000-seat stadium may be added as part of the City of Westfield’s grand expansion proposal for the Grand Park Sports Campus.
Through the potential addition of a new stadium and an anchor in the south section of the park meant for a four-sheet ice facility or a “sports-related headquarters,” the Master Plan will concentrate on improving the current campus to connect to the larger Westfield neighborhood.
The 10,000-seat stadium will be situated near the northwest intersection of Grand Park Boulevard and 186th Street, according to city authorities. About 152 acres north and south of 186th Street would be developed with new homes, businesses, and entertainment.
The project’s renderings are shown below:
Champions Way, a park that will link to Grand Park Lake, is another feature of the proposal. A tiny football field, Olympic-style podiums, play structures, splash pads, hammocks, swings, and other recreational amenities will be available in the park’s various zones.
According to city officials, the southern part of the lake will also have an urban beach and a Ferris wheel for visitors to enjoy. A system of canals would connect the lake to Grand Park Village Lake.
“City authorities estimated that Grand Park would receive about 250,000 visitors annually when it was first planned. Over 5 million people visit here every year, and we want to create a place where people want to remain in between tournaments or possibly stay longer,” Mayor Scott Willis stated. Additionally, this is a fantastic chance to establish a destination that truly connects our community to the park. We’ve not always noticed that, and we’re eager to improve that.
New parking garages will be constructed in the southwest corner of the Grand Park Events Center to accommodate more guests, and the park’s existing retention ponds will be redesigned to function as “urban-style canal walks,” according to city authorities.
As construction begins, the championship field and diamond will be moved, according to the announcement.
The project’s first phase will concentrate on building the parking garage and full-service hotel in addition to residences, shops, and dining establishments. The Grand Park headquarters for Indy Eleven’s soccer operations will also be renovated during this phase.
In order to create a walkable, energetic, and connected urban environment, Keystone Group will continue to collaborate with city officials over the course of the next six months to improve the district’s design, budgets, and schedules, according to the news release.
Westfield’s economic development director, Jenell Fairman, stated, “This plan represents a unique opportunity to create synergy between the growing business and residential areas in Westfield and the thriving sports community at Grand Park.” “With this idea, we imagine a connected, dynamic environment that will serve as a destination for residents, visitors, and sports fans. Currently, these two purposes are relatively divided. With plenty to offer everyone throughout the day, the Grand Park District is set to develop into a center of activity.
According to the press release, Tax Increment Financing (TIF) will be used to assist pay for roads, parking garages, infrastructure, trails, and public facilities.
A deal has been signed by Card and Associates to purchase the land south of 186th Street that is part of the Grand Park District. In order to construct the southern part of the Grand Park Master Plan in the future, the city indicated that it intended to rezone that land.
