A suspect in a Christmas murder “just began shooting everyone”
Indianapolis, Indiana – New information regarding a shooting that killed a lady and injured five others over a Christmas Day holiday has been made public by court filings.
One of the victims told police he was arguing with the suspect when the gunman “just began shooting everyone,” according to public documents. Earlier this year, the defendant was already facing accusations for allegedly participating in another violent crime.
On Friday night, family members gathered at the residence where Ana Paredes, 37, was murdered to pay tribute to her memories. Her family said they were still in mourning and that police were still looking into her death, so they weren’t prepared to talk to reporters.
The only terms police and neighbors have used to characterize what transpired on Meadowlark Drive that afternoon are “shocking,” “devastating,” and “tragic.”
According to IMPD police, Dauzon Narvez Garzon, 35, shot six people at a Christmas house party by repeatedly pulling the trigger.
An affidavit claims that Garzon and Paredes’ boyfriend got into a physical altercation. When the dispute got physical, Garzon started shooting at many individuals, including Paredes’ boyfriend.
According to a witness who spoke to police, Garzon pulled out the gun and started “shooting all over the house.”
“When those shots were fired, there were kids there,” IMPD Public Information Officer Drew Brown stated. “I want you to reflect on the violence that befell this family on a day that should have been joyful.”
According to court documents, when police arrived to investigate the incident on Meadowlark Drive, a resident hailed them down. The officers were then directed by the neighbor to a thicket where Garzon was hiding.
Garzon told officers that he was being threatened and accused of working with police by partygoers after he was booked. Garzon further stated that because he was under the influence of cocaine, amphetamine, and alcohol, he was unable to recall ever shooting the gun.
Brown stated, “It’s unclear exactly what the motive is.” Naturally, our detectives have been working nonstop, away from their families, in an effort to find a quick solution to this problem.
According to court documents, Garzon was already charged with felony strangulation and violence for an incident that occurred in May. He allegedly bit and pistol-whipped his girlfriend outside Tajin Mexican Bar and Grill at the time, telling her that “it would be worse for her” if she called the police.
ICE and the Department of Homeland Security are also involved in the case, according to IMPD authorities, because Garzon entered the country illegally. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday and is still being held without bond.
