AES Indiana consents to a reduction in rate increases

Indianapolis, Indiana – Customers of AES Indiana might have a smaller rate hike in 2024 than initially anticipated.
On Monday morning, AES Indiana formally announced that it has decided to scale back its rate increase agreement with the state.
The average monthly payment will increase by $9.52 under the new plan, or little over 7%.
The first plan, submitted in June, increased payments by 23% per month by 18%.
The agreement is a component of a settlement with trade associations and consumer advocates.
According to AES, it has also committed to take additional actions that will help clients, such as:
• The elimination of residential customer disconnections on Fridays, weekends, and certain holidays.
• Increased investments in vegetation management.
• Greater protections for customers with Medical Alerts.
Customers’ advocacy group, the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counseling, stated in October that the state ought to order the electricity supplier to either reject the rise or drastically reduce it, as it was too significant.
Midway through December, the strategy will be reviewed by the IURC.
