Indianapolis, Indiana – This weekend, a regional tournament involving thousands of high school marching band members and supporters will take place in downtown Indianapolis.

Music will be played all day on Friday and Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Bands of America Super Regional.

During the event, students from more than 60 high schools in seven states in the Midwest will showcase their talents.

Schools can get tools for music education from Music for All, the non-profit organization that organized the tournament. For high school marching bands, it holds the Regional, Super Regional, and Grand National Championships.

Mallory Duncan, director of marketing and communications, claims that the competition embodies everything they stand for.

“It’s just such a great experience to showcase what they’ve been learning and working on for the past probably three, four months as they’ve gone through this entire marching season,” Duncan said.

Also held at Lucas Oil Stadium is the Drum Corps. International Championships of the World.

According to Duncan, the pupils will have the amazing chance to perform for competing marching bands on one of the biggest venues in the world.

“It’s really a great atmosphere for them, truly,” Duncan said. “The more people that are here, the more exciting it is for these kids.”

There will be amazing effects, dance, and music in the shows. In the preliminary rounds, bands will be awarded in various categories as well as for top performance in each class, depending on the size of the school.

Duncan continues, “It’s an event that everyone, regardless of background, should experience.”

“It’s not like your typical high school halftime show that maybe you would see at some of these football games,” Duncan said. “It’s a lot of theater. We have props coming on. They all have beautiful uniforms, and the color guard is all decked out in really cool costumes, and they have a theme for their show,”

Friday’s preliminary round began at 11:30 a.m., and Saturday’s round begins at 7:30 a.m.

Next, on Saturday night, the top 14 bands will compete once more in the final round.

At 10:30 a.m., the Lucas Oil Stadium gates open, and the first bands will hit the stage at approximately 11 a.m.
