Bloomington Man Arrested For OWI, Attempted To Cough On Police Officers After Claiming To Have COVID-19
(BLOOMINGTON) – A Bloomington man was arrested after he failed field sobriety tests and then claimed he was infected with COVID-19 and coughed on a Bloomington Police officer.
According to Bloomington Police, officers responded to a disturbance call on South Walnut Street after a woman reported a man attempted to kidnap her while she was walking on Country Club Drive. She told police the man held her against the fencing of the bridge with his bicycle. She was able to escape and called the police and her boyfriend.
The boyfriend, 27-year-old Ethan Hoadley, drove to the scene to find the man.
When police arrived, Hoadley became belligerent with the officers and refused to follow commands. Police say Hoadley was intoxicated.
Hoadley was placed under arrest after he failed field sobriety tests.
Hoadley then told the officers he had COVID-19 and began attempting to cough on them. He continued to be belligerent and refused to walk. Once at the police department, Hoadley urinated on the wall and floor of an interview room.
Hoadley was transported to the hospital due to his level of intoxication and his claim to have COVID-19. Police could not comment on if Hoadley has the virus do to confidentiality laws.
Hoadley was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, and two counts of criminal mischief.
