Boone County is looking for volunteer bloodhound K-9 trail layers
Indianapolis, Indiana – To help in trail laying for the department’s bloodhound squad, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office is looking for volunteers who don’t mind hiking through unpredictable weather conditions and terrain.
These hard-nosed bloodhounds are experts in finding humans in a wide range of settings and circumstances. Their routes can often be hours old and span from heavily congested cityscapes to deep country backroads.
According to the administration, the K-9 Division trains once a week. The department’s requirements for volunteers are shown below.
• Be able to train for a minimum of four hours a day.
• Physically capable of walking long distances in different weather conditions and terrain.
• Be able to follow directions using aerial maps and drawings.
• Be a citizen in good standing.
• Be willing to submit to a background check.
• Have a working cell phone.
Volunteers are asked to get in touch with Sgt. Ryan Musgrave at [email protected].
