Woman who shot boyfriend outside Walmart gets out of jail
Lawrence, Indiana – After entering a guilty plea, a 19-year-old woman who shot her boyfriend outside a Walmart in Lawrence in August 2022 will not serve any jail time.
On August 12, 2022, Karena Bufala was taken into custody following the discovery of a shooting guy who was in critical condition outside the Walmart store situated at 10735 Pendleton Pike. The man survived the shooting and was subsequently identified by the authorities as being in a relationship with Bufala.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office only filed charges against Bufala for aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, after he was first taken into custody on a preliminary accusation of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony.
Bufala entered a guilty plea on December 11, 2023, to the charge.
Bufala was sentenced by Maron County Judge Charles F. Miller to six years of GPS home detention and self-report to Marion County Community Corrections on Thursday at a sentencing hearing.
Bufala’s six-year home detention sentence will terminate, and she will have to serve four years on probation.
