Boy shot and killed in an apartment building off 38th Street
Indianapolis, Indiana – According to authorities, a kid lost his life in a gunshot that occurred at residences on Indianapolis’ northeast side on Wednesday night.
Just before 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and ambulance were dispatched in response to a shooting incident in the 3500 block of Blue Spruce Lane. That is located in The Villages at Mill Crossing, approximately one mile east of East Fall Creek Parkway North Drive. The apartments are located northwest of the intersection of North Sherman Drive and East 38th Street.
By 10:10 p.m. on Wednesday, police had not released the boy’s age or identity to the public. After being brought to Riley Hospital for Children, the boy passed away.
Information on a potential suspect is not available to IMPD. Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide office at 317-327-3475, according to the investigators.
At the shooting scene, IMPD spokesman Officer William Young stated that, based on initial evidence, investigators believe two groups were involved in a disturbance that resulted in gunfire. It was thought that the boy had no affiliation with either gang.
Young mentioned families outside the apartments who were obviously disturbed.
“There’s a mother out here who just lost a child. That has to wake our community up. Our community, we shouldn’t be used to these type of things that are happening in our neighborhoods.”
“It’s so sad that a mom has to go through this,” he said.
