Driver killed in fiery collision on I-70

Plainfield, Indiana – According to officials, traffic on Interstate 70 has been halted due to a catastrophic accident in Hendricks County.

Several calls reporting a significant multi-vehicle incident in the eastbound lanes of I-70 close to the 64-mile marker, which is two miles west of the Plainfield exit, were made to Indiana State Police dispatchers at 12:05 on Saturday.

Several seriously damaged vehicles, including one that was upside down and completely consumed in flames, were discovered when police and rescue personnel arrived. The motorist was stuck inside the wreckage when the Plainfield Fire Department put out the flames.

The driver passed away there and then. Police are withholding the driver’s identify to give the family time to be notified.

The first responders discovered two more people who needed medical attention. With injuries that may have killed them, they were sent to a nearby hospital. Four passenger vehicles and three semi-tractor trucks were involved in the collision.

I-70’s eastbound lanes were stopped for about six hours while the accident was investigated and the debris was cleared.

According to the findings of the investigation, a small collision just west of the crash scene caused traffic to become backed up. The semi-tractor trailer’s driver hit the rear of stopped vehicles after failing to stop in time as traffic backed up. Several additional automobiles suffered severe damage, and two vehicles overturned.

Police say they are still looking into the crash’s circumstances.

There is now one open lane going east. It is thought that neither alcohol nor drugs played a part in the collision.
