Early Christmas morning in an east side neighborhood, a woman was shot and murdered
Indianapolis, Indiana – Authorities said that early on Christmas morning, a woman was shot and killed at a house in an east-side neighborhood.
Her age or name has not yet been disclosed.
Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a complaint of gunfire around 5:15 a.m. from the 6600 block of East 52nd Place. That is near Moonlight Drive and East 56th Street in a residential area.
When they got there, they discovered a woman outside of a house with a gunshot wound. At the scene, she was pronounced deceased.
Before detectives could arrive, according to the police, a male suspect left the area. The relationship between the two is unknown to the officers, who are attempting to find the guy.
IMPD Public Information Officer Samone Burris said that a family has been left to mourn on this Christmas morning.
“What should be a joyous family celebration – this is a tragic incident for this entire community. A life has been lost, a community has been impacted, and their lives will never be the same. This not be the scene, this should not be what our community members wake up to on a holiday morning. This is very unfortunate,” she said.
Anyone with knowledge of the shooting or security footage from doorbells or cameras is asked to get in touch with the IMPD.
In the past 24 hours, there have been three fatal shootings in Indianapolis. On Christmas Eve, multiple shootings throughout the city resulted in the deaths of two more people and the injuries of at least four more.
