Firefighters combat a massive fire at a Peruvian institution

Peru, Indiana – After a massive fire broke out at a building that houses arcade games on Wednesday night close to Peru, an investigation is currently ongoing.

Just before 8 p.m., many local fire departments were sent to Don’s Amusements, which is situated at C.R. 4028 W. 200 N., in response to reports of a sizable industrial fire in the neighborhood. East of U.S. 31, the facility is close to the Peru Municipal Airport.

In order to put out the fire at the 70,000-square-foot complex, several organizations had to work together, according to Cass County EMA Director Rocky Buffum.

“It’s pretty much down right now, but when we first arrived, we could see a huge fireball in the sky for a long time,” Buffum remarked. “Many fire departments put in a lot of effort, demonstrated excellent teamwork, and succeeded in getting it to where it is today.”

According to Buffum, the facility’s rural location made it challenging for firemen to respond efficiently. During the incident, neither firefighters nor civilians suffered any injuries.

Buffum went on to say that first responders’ workload was exacerbated by the high winds and sparse water supply in a rural region.

“Fires of this magnitude are somewhat uncommon in this region. We might see one or two people a year. There isn’t a lot of water supply because this 70,000-square-foot business is located in a rural location, Buffum added. This explains why there are so many trucks transporting water in the background. This area is devoid of fire hydrants. Firefighting becomes much more difficult as a result. The fire has not been entirely extinguished as of the writing of this article, despite firefighters transporting tens of thousands of gallons of water to douse the flames due to the wide area, limited water supply, and difficult-to-reach remote location.

According to Buffum, the Indiana State Incident Marshal’s Office is presently on the scene looking into what caused the massive incident.

Crews will keep working overnight and into Thursday morning to put out the last of the fires in the area, according to Buffum.

Investigations are still ongoing to determine the precise cause of the incident.
