First half of 2024 saw record passenger volume at IND Airport
Indianapolis, Indiana – According to the Indianapolis Airport Authority, approximately 5.2 million passengers passed through the Indianapolis International Airport between January and June of 2024, setting new records for passenger traffic.
According to Mario Rodriguez, the executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority, there has been a 10% increase in passengers between the same period in 2023 and 2019. This year saw five of the busiest days ever recorded by the airport.
According to the IAA, the spike in passenger traffic started in early 2024 and was caused by well-known occasions like the NBA All-Star Game in February.
With 967,597 passengers, March 2024 broke the previous record for the airport set in March 2019 by almost 10%.
There was a 12% increase in passengers in May over the prior year.
Currently, June, March, and May are the top three months for passenger travel.
According to the IAA, significant events held in Indianapolis, such as the National Eucharistic Congress, Brickyard 400, and the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Grand Boulé, have further contributed to the increase in traffic.
Airport managers are getting ready for a busy fall travel season as well as the approaching holidays.
