Indianapolis, Indiana – In April, full closures of Interstate 65 on the northwest side of the city will start because a bridge that crosses it is going to be torn down.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, workers will close Traders Lane on April 10 in order to demolish and rebuild a bridge.

On the northwest side of Indianapolis, the Traders Lane bridge spans I-65 just north of the 71st Street exit. According to INDOT, only the medians and shoulders of I-65 will be closed during the daytime bridge destruction, leaving both lanes of traffic open.

However, between April and the project’s anticipated completion in mid-October, I-65 will be totally closed at night for a few nights due to the bridge demolition.

These nighttime closures will begin on Saturday, April 15, and go through Sunday, April 16, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. This initial shutdown will only affect I-65’s northbound side.

Interstate traffic will be diverted to 465 and 865 during these closures.

Between April and the project’s completion in October, there will also be detours for drivers who use Traders Lane to cross I-65.

Although future I-65 nighttime closures have not yet been disclosed, drivers should be ready and make appropriate plans.
