In 21 states with Republican governors, including Indiana, Walgreens will not offer abortion drugs
Bloomington, Indiana -Walgreens pharmacy said it will not sell abortion pills in 21 Republican-led states, including Indiana after they received a letter signed by 20 state attorneys general in February. The letter claimed that it is a violation of federal law to distribute abortion pills through the mail.
According to a Feb. 17 letter from Walgreens sent to Kansas Attorney General Kris W. Kobach, Walgreens does not currently distribute the abortion pill, called Mifepristone, at any of its locations.
There are no Walgreens locations in Bloomington. Their nearest location is in Martinsville, Indiana, about 17 miles north.
CVS, another large pharmacy chain that has multiple Bloomington locations, has not made a statement about Mifepristone. However, a local CVS pharmacy representative said they do carry Mifepristone, and it would be available to any customer who had a doctor’s prescription.
