Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb reflects on his two terms in office and offers guidance for upcoming lawmakers
Indianapolis, Indiana – During his two terms as governor, Eric Holcomb expressed pride in numerous accomplishments.
He expressed that he takes great pride in the actions of his administration and its collaboration with government entities, the corporate sector, philanthropists, and academic institutions, highlighting the significant benefits that have accrued to the state of Indiana as a result.
“Our administration, along with various agencies and departments, is committed to being a positive force for the state of Indiana,” Holcomb stated. “…”Significant benefits have emerged from these collaborations and partnerships, particularly in the creation of new jobs and the development of a future-oriented economy.
Since 2016, Holcomb has held the position of Republican governor in Indiana. Holcomb, who served as Indiana’s 51st lieutenant governor, was initially elected in 2016 and secured re-election in 2020. According to state law, Holcomb is prohibited from seeking a third term as governor.
Indiana’s economy has experienced growth during Holcomb’s time as governor, highlighted by unprecedented capital investment and reductions in both personal income and corporate taxes, as stated on his gubernatorial website.
Holcomb stated that economic growth has resulted in the state attracting new industries and has enabled investments in its residents through K-12 funding, literacy initiatives, and addiction recovery programs.
“We are introducing a new hydrogen hub, a new microelectronics hub, a new biotech hub, the one health innovation district, and the LEAP district,” Holcomb stated. “Significant investments are being made throughout the state of Indiana, impacting various regions, not limited to a single central location.” That is broadening the scope for us, engaging leaders and stewards from every region.
Holcomb highlighted that several initiatives during his time as governor will benefit the state in the long term, such as expanding broadband access in rural regions, completing the I-69 project, and creating trails that link communities.
“I take great pride in the many accomplishments we’ve achieved. Looking ahead to 2030 and 2040, it’s clear that our strategic planning for Indiana’s future is already making significant progress,” he stated.
In November, U.S. Senator Mike Braun, R-Ind., was chosen as Indiana’s new Republican governor. Holcomb expressed his complete confidence that Braun will highlight the significance of further developing the state of Indiana.
Holcomb’s key recommendation for Braun is to maintain humility and embrace the opportunity to learn something new each day in his role.
“This position, and I speak from personal reflection, is the first time any of us have experienced it.” “For that reason and that reason alone, it’s unlike anything you’ve ever done before,” Braun stated. “It’s essential to approach this with humility and an understanding that learning will be a continuous process from the very first day to the very last…” You will be linked with individuals. One positive aspect of Hoosiers is their willingness to express their opinions openly.
Holcomb emphasized the importance of having strong role models in politics, advocating for candidates who take responsibility for the issues they championed during their campaigns.
“What is our current status in that battle?” What steps are we taking to enhance our situation regarding debt and deficit? What measures are we implementing to promote legal immigration while preventing illegal immigration from happening? Holcomb stated. “These will demand bravery, but above all, they will necessitate a strategy to implement.” I’m optimistic that those present will embrace the moment and make the most of today.
The objective is for the individual in the role to actively seek advancement.
“Achieving that requires a solid plan and commitment to it, avoiding distractions, and not falling for temptations.” Holcomb stated, “We’ve consistently aimed to maintain a structured agenda, a methodical approach, if you will, to tackle any topic at hand, whether it’s education, health and wellness, economic growth, infrastructure development, or any other matter.” “We have a strategy in place and we aim to remain dedicated to it.”
In the end, Holcomb expressed that throughout his tenure, he made a daily effort to represent every Hoosier. Holcomb expressed that demonstrating grace, particularly in the role of governor, is a “sign of strength.”
“I’ll admit, even if it requires holding back my thoughts, or choosing to overlook certain things, or recognizing that someone might just be having a rough day, or that they may not have all the information I possess,” Holcomb stated. “Exhibiting a touch of grace in this role is essential.” Allowing time for things to settle can be very beneficial, even if you feel you’ve been treated unfairly.
In response to inquiries regarding his future, Holcomb indicated that he is not currently contemplating another run for office, although he did not dismiss the possibility of pursuing a future candidacy. Holcomb highlighted the significance of his role in stepping back to assist organizations and companies in their growth, similar to the way he has contributed to the development of the state of Indiana.
Braun is set to take the oath of office as Indiana’s new governor in January 2025.
