Indy’s northeast side house fire claims the life of a man

Indianapolis, Indiana – On Monday night, a house fire on Indianapolis’ northeast side claimed the life of a 67-year-old man, according to firemen.
Just after 9:20 p.m., firefighters from the Indianapolis Fire Department were dispatched to a fire in the 3000 block of Devon Drive. In the Devon neighborhood, that is a residential area immediately off 42nd Street.
When firefighters entered the house, they discovered the man had died.
Firefighters were informed by the home’s owner, who was also the man’s niece, that she had unsuccessfully attempted to put out the fire and move her uncle outside. She was examined for injuries on the spot before being let go.
It took around 30 minutes to put out the fire. Firefighters were not injured.
According to investigators, they are trying to learn more about what started the fire.
