IU Indianapolis enhances its seamless admission initiative for schools in Marion County
Indianapolis, Indiana – Students in Marion County can now gain automatic admission to IU Indianapolis by fulfilling specific criteria.
Indiana University has announced that students from various Marion County school districts and schools will now have the opportunity for a “seamless” admission into IU Indianapolis, provided they maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
The newest schools and townships participating in the university’s initiative, with student enrollment applications beginning in the fall of 2026, are as follows:
• Decatur Township
• Irvington Preparatory Academy
• James and Rosemary Phalen Leadership Academy
• Lawrence Township
• Pike Township
• Rooted School Indianapolis at Eastern Star
• Warren Online Academy
• Warren Central High School
According to the announcement, eligible seniors at these high schools will be exempt from submitting a standard application or incurring any fees. Instead, they will complete a brief online form for automatic admission.
The initiative has progressed from its pilot program phase, which included four high schools within the Indianapolis Public Schools and is now set to welcome students this fall. The program then expanded to include the IPS Innovation Network for the fall of 2025.
According to the announcement, over 450 seniors have met the criteria for seamless admission for the fall 2025 semester. Authorities indicated that the initiative aids in eliminating obstacles for students.
“This initiative is groundbreaking as we strive to streamline the college admission process and ensure that higher education is attainable for every high school student in Marion County,” stated Latha Ramchand, chancellor of IU Indianapolis and executive vice president of IU. “Our dedication lies in providing support to students and families, alongside fostering the development of future leaders for Indianapolis and central Indiana.”
The initiative will encompass academic support programs aimed at promoting success at the university. This includes professional and peer mentoring, academic success coaching and advising, along with tutoring services.
“Students who have dedicated themselves and attained academic excellence will gain from an efficient process via the seamless admissions program,” stated Larry Young, the superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township, in the announcement. “We are thrilled about the promising futures and opportunities that lie ahead for our graduates, thanks to the availability of quality internships, work-based learning, and employment prospects in the Indianapolis area, along with IU Indy’s strong tradition of academic excellence.”
According to the announcement, leaders plan to broaden the initiative by including more schools in Marion County as well as institutions outside the county.
