IU unveils a statue of John Mellencamp

Bloomington, Indiana – “Oh yeah, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone.” This is a poignant lyric to John Mellencamp’s “Jack and Diane”.
However, it now also represents a recently installed statue at Indiana University.
A brand-new statue honoring Bloomington native and Hall of Fame singer-songwriter John Mellencamp was erected by IU Bloomington on Friday.
Even after the singer is “gone, long gone,” the new statue, made by Indianapolis artist Michael McAuley, will undoubtedly become an IU icon. It features the musician responsible for hits like “Small Town” clutching his guitar.
A post on X by IU Bloomington states that the statue is located in the IU Auditorium North Garden on campus.
This post also has a picture of the statue.
