Indianapolis, Indiana – Jim Banks, a Republican from Indiana, was sworn in as the state’s senator on Friday.

Sen. Banks expressed gratitude to the wonderful people of Indiana for choosing him to fill this significant position. “I will never be careless about it. Serving as our state’s senator is an enormous pleasure, and I will always prioritize Indiana and the United States. By protecting the border, bolstering our national defense, and battling the communist menace from China, I have spent the last eight years fighting to put America first. In the Senate, my priorities will not change. I’m prepared to get started right away and am looking forward to assisting President Trump in getting his agenda approved by Congress and confirming his cabinet selections.

The Senate Committee on Armed Services, the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pension, and the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs were among the committees that Sen. Banks announced his nomination to last month.

In the United States House of Representatives, Sen. Banks most recently represented Indiana’s Third District. He had previously been a member of the Whitley County Council and the Indiana State Senate.

During Operations Enduring Freedom and Freedom’s Sentinel, Banks deployed to Afghanistan while serving in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Sen. Banks, his wife, and their three daughters, Joann, Elizabeth, and Lillian, reside in Columbia City.
