Man detained in relation to the woman-killing shooting on Rural Street

Indianapolis, Indiana – Police said they have detained a guy in connection with the August 28 shooting death of Emily Willis, 27.
Deonta Nelson, 34, is accused of murder and is a dangerous felon prohibited from carrying a firearm.
Around 9 p.m. on August 28, police were called to the intersection of East New York Street and North Rural Street in response to a complaint of gunfire, as stated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Willis was discovered by police sleeping on the 200 block of Rural Street. The medical staff at IU Methodist confirmed her dead upon arrival.
According to the investigation, Willis had been involved in a fight just before the shooting. According to a press release issued by IMPD on August 28th, she was on foot when gunfire erupted.
Detectives were able to zero in on a suspect vehicle with the help of license plate readers during their investigation. Nelson was eventually recognized as a suspect, and the car was found.
On Friday, Nelson was arrested. The Marion County Jail was holding him without bond.
As of Sunday, a court date for Nelson had not been scheduled.
