Indianapolis, Indiana – Leon Marchand broke the 500-yard freestyle record on Thursday night, helping Arizona State grab the lead following Day 2 of the men’s swimming and diving championships at the IU Natatorium on the IUPUI campus.
With a run of 4:02.31, Marchand broke his record from the Pac-12 championships a few weeks prior and won the NCAA Championship.
Arizona State leads with 201 points, followed by Florida (161) and California (169).
Cal senior Destin Lasco won the 200-yard individual medley and set an American record with a time of 1:37.91.
With a swim time of 18.07, Josh Liendo became the second Gator to win the 50-yard freestyle.
Liendo, Adam Chaney, Julian Smith, and Macguire McDuff finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:13.49. That was the second-fastest time ever recorded by the group. It was Florida’s third consecutive victory in the competition.
Lyle Yost won his second consecutive NCAA 1-meter diving championship, making history as the first Ohio State Buckeye to win back-to-back national titles since the 1980s.
