Monroe County will provide warming stations this weekend due to the predicted freezing temperatures
Monroe County, Indiana – According to the Monroe County website, warming centers will be open daily from January 13 through 20 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. by the Monroe County Emergency Management Agency in anticipation of extremely low temperatures.
There will be warming stations at Ellettsville Fire Department Headquarters, Bloomington Fire Stations 1 and 2, and other Monroe Fire Protection Districts.
If people don’t have access to other forms of heating, the stations will provide them a chance to warm up. There won’t be any food, water, showers, or places to sleep.
Saturday’s high temperature is predicted to be 26 degrees, with snow showers in the morning. On Sunday, the temperature will continue to decrease, and a winter storm is possible. The high temperature for the week is expected to be between 10 and 24 degrees. Although hypothermia can occur in temperatures above 40 degrees, the danger rises with decreasing temperatures and increasing wind speeds. People should dress appropriately and stay out of the cold for extended periods to prevent hypothermia.
