Kokomo, Indiana – The Howard County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday that two people died on Sunday evening after being struck by an automobile while riding in a golf cart outside of Kokomo.

The two were identified by police as Kokomo residents Richard Calloway, 83, and Elaine Calloway, 75.

According to the Howard County Sheriff’s Office, an automobile and a golf cart driven by two senior citizens collided on Sunday at about 5:45 p.m. near the intersection of Touby Pike and County Road 325 North.

That region is located south of S.R. 35, roughly northeast of Kokomo’s downtown.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they discovered that Cole Byrd, 20, of Kempton, Indiana, was operating a red 2007 Chevy Impala when it collided with a golf cart that was also traveling north on Touby Pike.

The Calloways were riding in the golf cart. Despite efforts to save his life, Richard passed away right there. Elaine was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital, where she passed away.

As required by Indiana law in cases of fatal crashes, Byrd also traveled to a local hospital for a blood test.

Cpl. Bracket of the Howard County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the collision to call 765-614-3488.
