Police dog Kai from Indiana receives an armored vest

Lowell, Indiana – Thanks to a kind donation, an Indiana State Police canine is now more protected against gunshots and stabbings.

K-9 Kai was issued an armored vest on Friday by the state police in the Lowell district.

The vest was donated by the charity organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc., located in Massachusetts. The words “Honoring those who served and sacrificed” were embroidered on the vest.

Kai became one of the almost 5,000 American police canines who have been outfitted with vests from the charity.

Kai had the possibly life-saving body armor specially fitted, and it weighed about four to five pounds.

The nonprofit received donations to help pay for the $1,800 vest.

Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski, and Starke counties in northwest Indiana are within the jurisdiction of the Lowell district.
