Registration for the Carmel Police Citizens Academy is now open

Carmel, Indiana – Registration for the Carmel Police Citizens Academy’s fall 2023 session is now open, according to the Carmel Police Department.
Candidates can learn more about the operations of the Carmel Police Department through the free 11-week course.
Along with learning about a variety of subjects such the SWAT squad, K-9 unit, drone unit, criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, and many others, participants will also get a deeper look at the training officers get.
All of the instructors will be police officers from the Carmel Police Department, and they will offer instruction and information on a specific aspect of their line of work. Participants will get a chance to apply some of the training while experiencing the police department.
The program will meet on Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. beginning on August 10 and you don’t have to live in Carmel to attend, according to the department.
Requirements for participants include:
• Be at least 18 years old
• Have no criminal history other than minor traffic violations (background checks will be performed)
• Be physically able to meet training requirements
• Commit to attending 11 weekly training sessions lasting 2 – 2.5 hours
• Sign any required waivers or agreements
