Indianapolis, Indiana – City The Indiana Department of Transportation had a busy week because to barrier wall construction downtown, west side closures, and ongoing work on the I-465 and I-69 projects.

Here are a few projects that drivers need to be aware of.

Repairing the I-65 barrier wall
Crews will close the inner lanes of I-65 northbound and southbound between W. 16th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street through downtown Indianapolis from 9 p.m. on Friday, August 18, to 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 19.

During the night, contractors will make repairs to the barrier wall.

West side closure and traffic change
Around nine of the clock on Thursday, August 17, INDOT will direct traffic on I-465 southbound toward the median wall spanning U.S. 136 and Eagle Creek.

On Friday, August 18, workers will close the I-74 eastbound ramp to I-465 southbound around 7 o’clock. The right two lanes of I-465 southbound will also be closed.

The limitations are anticipated to last until 6 a.m. on August 21 per INDOT. Workers will finish the thin deck overlay.

Intersection at Smith Valley Road
Tuesday afternoon’s partial opening of the new Smith Valley Road junction by INDOT will represent a significant development in the I-69 Finish Line project.

This will involve the Smith Valley Road bridge over State Road 37, the entrance and exit ramps for SR 37 in the south, and the roundabout at Smith Valley Road and Mullinix Road to the east of SR 37.

Later this year, the northbound SR 37 entrance and exit ramps will become operational.

Work on I-465 continues
As construction workers construct retaining walls and make upgrades to Thompson Road in preparation for expanded I-465 travel lanes, the Mann Road exit ramp to eastbound I-465 will be blocked for up to two months.

For the duration of the repair, INDOT advises drivers to utilize Kentucky Avenue to access I-465 eastbound.

As workers erect signs, lighting, and draining structures throughout the work zone, drivers on I-465 eastbound and westbound from Kentucky Avenue to U.S. 31 may anticipate evening single-lane closures.

Project I-69 updates
Crews will continue to install conduit, cable barriers, and fencing along the shoulders of I-69/SR 37 in northern Morgan and Johnson counties.

This week, drivers near the SR 144 roundabout at Huggin Hollow Road and Old SR 37 should be aware of pavement construction in the area.

According to INDOT, “some incidents” have occurred as a result of the I-69 northbound single-lane restriction south of SR 144. The department blamed drivers’ high speeds for the problems and advised them to calm down.

According to INDOT, the schedule for all projects is subject to weather and may change as a result of other circumstances.
