Tyson Foods recalling more than 8 million pounds of fully cooked chicken

Indianapolis, Indiana – Tyson Foods, Inc. is recalling more than 8 million pounds of frozen, fully cooked chicken because it might have been exposed to listeria the company announced.

The amount of chicken has been distributed nationwide to Tyson Foods’ food service and retail customers. According to the company, all packages with the code P-7089 might be affected of the issue.

“While there is no conclusive evidence that the products were contaminated at the time of shipment, the voluntary recall is being initiated out of an abundance of caution,” Tyson said in a news release.

The recall came after the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service reported that at least two people became sick with listeriosis. The agency added there is clear evidence linking the illness to precooked chicken produced at Tyson Foods Inc.

Tyson Foods informed that the affected products were produced between December 2020 and April 2021 at a Missouri plant.

Products with the code P-7089 should be thrown away immediately or returned back. The company will refund every returned package with the code P-7089.
