Indianapolis, Indiana – The ACTION Health Center of the Marion County Public Health Department will provide students a low-cost sports physical in August.

Four unique walk-in clinics from 3 pm to 6 pm on the following days will give sports physicals for $10 on a first come, first served basis:

• Wednesday, Aug. 9
• Wednesday, Aug. 16
• Wednesday, Aug. 23
• Wednesday, Aug. 30

Children and young adults from birth to age 26 can receive primary care and other medical services at the ACTION Health Center, which is situated at 2868 North Pennsylvania Street.

Sports physicals are crucial, according to Dr. Millicent Moye, director of the ACTION Health Center, since they check for major medical issues that might prevent a child from participating. Doctors can talk about safety and mental health issues while doing a sports physical.

“We always ask about the types of sports they are playing, which determines the safety specifics,” said Dr. Moye, “For example, in ice hockey, we talk about wearing helmets and dental protection. The same goes for football. We also ask students mental health questions such as feelings of depression and anxiety, about feeling safe at home, and about bike and water sports safety.”

Parents are encouraged to watch their children closely for any signs of health problems while at games, according to the ACTION Health Center. Sports with a lot of body contact must be cautious of concussions.

Call the ACTION Health Center at 317-221-3400 if you’re interested in the sports physicals or the particular walk-in clinics.
