County Council grants the requested funding to continue the fight against domestic abuse
Bedford, Indiana – The Lawrence County Council gave their approval on Tuesday to Lawrence County Community Corrections Director Joe Dibert’s request for S5,000 to submit an application for a grant through the STOP Violence Against Women Formula Grant Program.
The grant, which the council has approved for the previous two years, as well as contributions of S19,600 from Hoosier Uplands have aided Dibert and the Lawrence County Coalition Against Domestic Violence in raising awareness of the problem and offering services like counseling and education to victims throughout the county, according to Dibert.
Dibert informed the council about the assistance provided by Hoosier Uplands: “It’s been a blessing to 28 ladies in our community over the last two years to obtain aid when they didn’t have insurance or services or anything like that.
He continued to describe the program’s objectives, saying they were to assist victims as swiftly as possible while removing any obstacles that could be present.
“The goal was to completely remove all red tape that the system typically generates so that someone could simply say, “I need help. Yes, go help someone. We’ll deal with it. Although I’m incredibly proud of it and our relationship, he added, “We need to do more.”
The coalition, he said, has grown from its initial five members to its current 28 members, who represent a variety of backgrounds and specialties. The coalition’s ultimate objective, he said, is to pool their knowledge to increase the program’s broader effect.
I’m telling you that we have the appropriate people seated at the table, and they are enthusiastic and eager to participate in this discussion on a dull subject. Dibert stated, “I get thrilled about this material because it’s something that we can do differently and help individuals in this community instead of just turning a blind guy, which we have done for so long. Nobody wants to discuss this. Every time I have the chance to discuss it, I do so because it is a fact. There are individuals out there who are in need of assistance, and lucky people like us are available to provide it.
He stated that finding a refuge to offer victims a secure atmosphere is one goal the alliance has set.
“I’ve spoken with the mayor, and I’m placing calls and such. I’ve got the proper individuals at the table who can find the money to make these stuff happen, so I ask you, folks, if you see something like that, that might be viable for us to invest in as a coalition, he said the council.
Anyone struggling with domestic violence can call 211 to learn about the resources that are available.
